My Style of Filming and Why I Choose to Film Handheld.

Pretend I am not there…

Creating captivating wedding films doesn’t mean you have to stage scenes or take loads of fancy equipment along to weddings to add special effects or movement.

Over the years of filming weddings, I have slowly stripped everything right back so that it’s just me and the camera.

I now purely focus on the things I can control easily which is natural light and creative composition. The rest is what is happening around me, the natural moments as they happen.

Because I do not have loads of equipment I am free to focus on what is happening around me, since removing unnecessary equipment I have been able to capture truly beautiful candid moments.

When you look back at your wedding video in years to come, do you want to see a perfect sliding slot of your top table, or do you want to see candid shots of family members hugging, laughing and having a great time?

My goal isn’t to make you and your guests comfortable, this is because they shouldn’t even know I am there making a video.

Not surprisingly, I have found over the years that I get the best footage when people do not even know they are being filmed, natural laughing is amazing to watch back compared to awkward looks when people suddenly realise there is a cameraman looking at them.

This is why I have removed my fluffy microphone off the top of my camera, and also the tripod. Both items scream I am filming video and everyone changes how they behave.

I do everything outside of the ceremony and speeches handheld so everyone just assumes I am the photographer, and this makes everyone relaxed.
